John Wick is not dead. He survived the gunshot wound to his chest and was buried alive by Winston, who betrayed him at the end of John Wick Chapter 4. John is not, however, alone. He has Sofia, the assassin who assisted him in Casablanca, as an ally. She rescues him from his tomb and takes him to a safe home where she reveals that she has a scheme to overthrow the High Table, the mysterious group that controls the underworld.
Sofia confesses that she has been collaborating with the Bowery King, a notorious figure who was betrayed by Winston and left for dead. To fight the High Table and its enforcers, the Bowery King has been assembling an army of devoted followers. A mystery hacker by the name of Zero, who can hack into any system and reveal any secret, is another one of his hidden weapons. In exchange for Winston, John offers to assist Sofia and the Bowery King in their objective. He wants to hold him accountable for his treachery and the murder of his dog. However, they caution him that Winston is well-protected by the High Table and its friends, especially the Continental Hotel and its manager, Charon. Sofia and the Bowery King concur.
The group sets off on a risky voyage throughout the world, encountering deadly foes and unexpected allies. They run across old acquaintances and enemies including Marcus, John's former mentor who faked his death in John Wick Chapter 2, Cassian, the Continental's concierge who has a vengeance against John, Ares, the mute assassin who works for Santino D'Antonio, and others. They also encounter new characters including Baba Yaga, a famous witch who is aware of John's actual origins, Yakuza Boss, a formidable criminal lord who rules Tokyo, and Ballerina, a young and merciless killer who was taught by the Director. They learn that there are other people out there who want John dead as they draw nearer to their intended victim. Another force is directing events and tugging the strings from behind the scenes. a power that has an uncanny understanding of John. a person or entity has a personal grudge against him. an entity known as Viggo Tarasov.
However, Viggo is not alone himself. Saul Goodman, a corrupt attorney who formerly worked for Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, two infamous meth traffickers who were slain by John in John Wick Chapter 3, is his ally. Saul has been concealing out as Gene Takavic, the manager of a cell phone business in Omaha, Nebraska. Saul, however, agrees to come out of hiding and utilize his contacts and expertise to locate John Wick when Viggo calls him and gives him a sizable sum of money to do so.
Infiltrating Zero's network allows Saul to find John in Montrose, Colorado. He alerts Viggo, who sends an assassination squad to surprise John and his companions. Saul nevertheless gets in touch with ex-hitman Mike Ehrmantraut, who worked for Gus Fring and Saul before going into hiding. For saving his life in John Wick Chapter 3, Mike owes John a favor, thus he chooses to inform John about Viggo's scheme.
Will John Wick be able to survive this final John Wick chapter? Will he be able to get his revenge on Winston and Viggo? Will he be able to find peace and redemption? Or will he die as he lived: as a man of focus, commitment, and sheer will?
