CSS syllabus and past paper for all CSS optional and compulsory subjects

CSS Syllabus and CSS subjects past paper are given below. The following syllabus for the CSS examination is for CSS and onward CSS exams.

NOTE: The following syllabus, paper patter, and other information is only for CSS exams.


There will be two 100-marks papers for each of the 200-point subjects. There will only be one paper in the other subjects. Each paper will be three hours long. Except for the Essay, Applied Mathematics, and Pure Mathematics examinations, applicants might expect some objective type questions (MCQs) in compulsory and optional papers.
Urdu or other Pakistani regional languages (Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, and Balochi), Persian, and Arabic Question Papers should be answered in those languages. However, questions pertaining to translation from one language to another, or vice versa, should be answered according to the instructions on the question paper. The Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions question paper can only be answered in English or Urdu. Unless otherwise specified in the Question Paper, all other papers must be answered in English. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the papers being cancelled and ZERO marks being awarded in the relevant paper(s).
Non-Muslim applicants can choose between Islamic Studies and Comparative Study of Major Religions.
A candidate who fails to present in any compulsory or optional subject would be disqualified from taking the remaining examination papers.
The three General Knowledge papers (GK-I, GK-II, and GK-III) must be passed together with a total score of 120 out of 300.

General Knowledge 3 Papers are these

4. Paper - I General Science & Ability 100 (MCQs = 20 marks, subjective = 80 marks)
5. Paper - II Current Affairs 100
6. Paper - III Pakistan Affairs 100
7. Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions (For Non-Muslims) 100

Note: Subjective questions should be attempted on an Answer Book, whereas MCQs should be done on a computerized OMR Answer sheet.

Optional Subjects for CSS Exam (600 marks)

Optional subjects must meet the minimal requirements of an honour's degree from a Pakistani university. Candidates must choose optional subjects worth a total of 600 points from the following groupings. Only one subject can be opted from one group.
